1. Mechanicsburg was once an important transportation hub. The town was located on the Cumberland Valley Railroad, which carried passengers and goods from the Susquehanna River to the Potomac River. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the town was also home to the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, which was a major storage and distribution center for the Navy.
2. Mechanicsburg is the birthplace of several notable people. These include celebrity chef Guy Fieri, NASCAR driver Scott Riggs, and Olympic swimmer Kristy Kowal. Additionally, Mechanicsburg was the home of famous American abolitionist and women's rights activist Lucretia Mott during her childhood.
