One fun and verifiable fact about Hollow Rock is that it was originally named "Hollow Rock Furnace" after the iron furnaces that were built there in the early 1800s. These furnaces were used to produce iron for the Confederate Army during the Civil War, but they were destroyed by Union soldiers in 1864. Today, there are still remnants of the furnaces and the iron mining operations in the area that visitors can see and explore.
