Read on!
Niota, Tennessee, was once known as the "Mother of Southern Railroads" because it was a hub for several railroad lines that connected the South to the North. In fact, on April 11, 1869, Niota was the site of a historic event known as the "Niota Conference," where representatives from nine different railroads met to establish standard time zones for train schedules across the United States. This made travel more efficient and helped to streamline the railroad industry.
