Kim is a graduate of Texas Tech University and has been involved in many civic organizations, including The Junior League of Lubbock, the Lubbock Symphony Guild, and a life member of Texas P.T.A. Kim is a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Kim has been happily married Dal Burrous for 32 years. Kim and Dal have a daughter, Erin and a son, Jay Russell. Kim and Dal have been residents of Lubbock for over 28 years.
