A native Texan born in Dallas, Brent graduated from Albuquerque (NM) Academy in 1982 with a New Mexico AAA high school men's tennis championship to his name and went on to play intercollegiate tennis at Texas Tech for a year. He completed his B. S. (1986) and M. S. (1990) in Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M and his Ph. D. (1996) at Colorado State. He and his wife have lived in Amarillo for nearly 20 years. They have three sons, all of whom love to ski and snowboard at Steamboat and Crested Butte, CO. Brent is an avid hunter, backpacker, and outdoorsman, having summited 15 of Colorado's Fourteeners. He has also coached youth sports in Amarillo since 2000.
