1. In 1882, the first permanent settlement in Wichita Falls was established by brothers Frank and Jesse Kell.
2. On April 10, 1964, a devastating tornado struck Wichita Falls, killing seven people and injuring over 100. It was the first F5 tornado to hit the city since records began in 1950.
3. In 1979, the world's first artificial surf pool opened in Wichita Falls. It was called "Surf 'N Swim" and was located at the former Sheppard Air Force Base.
4. In 2008, Wichita Falls became the first city in Texas to be designated as an All-America City by the National Civic League.
