Bosque County is located in central Texas, within the United States. It was created on February 4, 1854, from McLennan County and named after the Bosque River, by Spanish explorers who referred to the region "bosque" meaning "wooded" in Spanish. The county seat is Meridian.

The county was initially settled by Norwegians, primarily farmers, who began migrating there in the mid-19th century to establish their homes and communities. The first European settlement in the area was the town of Clifton, which was settled in 1851 by Captain Israel Stanfield. Clifton later became a principal center of trade and education within the region, and it remains the largest town in the county.

Due to its diverse landscape and rich soil, Bosque County is known for agriculture, particularly ranching and farming, which remain essential to the local economy. It was also a significant route for cattle drives from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

A fun fact about Bosque County is that it is home to the Texas Safari Park, a 600-acre live-animal-themed park, where visitors can drive through and see a variety of exotic animals, such as zebras, camels, and kangaroos, freely roaming in their natural habitats. The park is located between Clifton and Meridian on State Highway 6.
