Collin County, located in northeastern Texas, is part of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The area's rich history dates back to the early 1800s. Established on April 3, 1846, the county was named after Collin McKinney, one of the five men who drafted the Texas Declaration of Independence and the oldest of the 59 signatories.

In its early years, Collin County was occupied mainly by Native American tribes, such as the Tonkawas, Wacos, Taovayas, Caddos, and Comanches. As part of the Texan colonization process, settlers from diverse backgrounds began to populate the area, leading to frequent clashes with native tribes. In the 1840s and 1850s, the county began to grow, with settlements formed mainly by emigrants from central Texas and southern U.S. states.

The initial economy of Collin County was centered around agriculture, with cotton as the principal cash crop. By the end of the 19th century, railroads started to play a significant role in the region's development, enhancing trade and communications. The extension of railroad lines led to the growth of many small towns that still exist today, such as Plano, Allen, Frisco, and McKinney.

In the second half of the 20th century, Collin County began transitioning from an agricultural landscape to a more urbanized environment. As part of the larger DFW Metroplex, Collin County experienced rapid population growth, reaching over a million residents by 2020.

One fun fact about Collin County is that it houses the Southfork Ranch, a massive estate that has become a popular tourist destination due to its role in the famous television series "Dallas," which aired from 1978 to 1991. Visitors to the ranch can explore the property and learn about the iconic show.
