Concho County, located in the great state of Texas, was established on February 2, 1858, and named after the Concho River, which has its headwaters within the region. The county's land area stretches over 993 square miles in the Edwards Plateau region. The county seat is Paint Rock, which also happens to be the largest community in the area.

Before the arrival of European settlers, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Lipan Apaches, Comanches, and Kiowas. In 1868, U.S. Army Captain John Pope established Fort Concho in nearby Tom Green County, providing a military presence that helped quell unrest in the area.

The construction of railway lines in the early 20th century significantly impacted the region's economy, overshadowing the ranching and agricultural industry that was previously the primary contributor to Concho County's prosperity. However, the county's economy still heavily relies on agriculture, with its production of livestock, cotton, and grains.

One fun fact about this region is that it is home to several impressive historical sites, including the Concho County courthouse, which was completed in 1886 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, the county's eponymous Paint Rock features ancient Native American pictographs, which are estimated to be around 1,000 years old and have drawn researchers, tourists, and history enthusiasts to admire their beauty and historical significance.
