Ector County is located in the western part of the great state of Texas. It was established in 1887 and organized in 1891. The county was named in honor of Mathew Duncan Ector, a Confederate General during the American Civil War and later, a Texas jurist.

One fun fact about Ector County is that it is home to the Odessa Meteor Crater, a rare meteor impact crater that is estimated to be more than 20,000 years old. The crater is approximately 550 feet wide and 100 feet deep and now serves as a popular tourist attraction with an on-site museum displaying meteorite fragments and providing information about meteorites and their impact on Earth.
