Lee County, located in the great state of Texas, was officially established on April 17, 1874. The region was named in honor of General Robert E. Lee, a distinguished commander of the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The county seat, Giddings, was named after local landowner Jabez Deming Giddings. The area originally belonged to the Tonkawa and Comanche Native American tribes before European settlement and was settled primarily by Germans, Czechs, and Wendish families from the mid-19th century.

The establishment of the Houston and Texas Central Railway in the 1870s played a significant role in the development of Lee County. The railway opened opportunities for communication and trade, contributing to the growth of the county's agricultural and manufacturing sectors. Over time, Lee County became a prosperous area, with cotton farming, cattle ranching, and various industries such as furniture manufacturing and grain milling shaping its early economy.

A fun fact about this region is that Lee County is home to Serbin, a small town founded by the Wendish people during their migration to Texas in the 19th century. This town is of great historical significance as it showcases the unique Wendish culture, evident in the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum, and has preserved the old St. Paul Lutheran Church, illustrating the close-knit community that characterizes Lee County in Texas.
