Robertson County is located in the great state of Texas and has a rich historical background. The county was founded in 1837, named in honor of Sterling C. Robertson, an early Texan settler and land developer. Originally a part of the Mexican land grant given to Robert Leftwich, the region later became a part of the Robertson Colony, one of the colonization plans implemented by the Mexican government to develop Texas.

During the pre-Civil War era, Robertson County was primarily inhabited by European-American settlers, many of whom were engaged in cotton production and other agricultural endeavors. The fertile Brazos River basin made it an attractive area for farming. During this time, numerous plantations were established, some of which were operated using slave labor.

With the advent of railroads in the late 1800s, towns like Calvert and Hearne emerged as thriving commercial centers in Robertson County, connected to other regions through a rapidly expanding network of rail lines. Growth continued into the 20th century, with industries such as coal mining, lumber, and cotton ginning taking root.

Today, the population of Robertson County stands at nearly 17,000 residents, many of whom work in industries like agriculture, oil and gas production, and various services. The county seat, Franklin, serves as the center of governance and local affairs.

One fun fact about Robertson County is that it is home to the historic Hammond House in Calvert. Built in 1875, this charming Victorian mansion was once the residence of the town's founder and first mayor, Robert Calvert, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
