Garfield County, Utah
.Garfield County is located in the great state of Utah and boasts a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Established on March 9, 1882, by the Utah Territorial Legislature, Garfield County was named in honor of President James A. Garfield, who had been assassinated the previous year. Before the arrival of European settlers, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes including the Fremont, Southern Paiute, and Anasazi.
During its early years, the county's economy relied heavily on livestock and agriculture, with many settlers engaged in cattle ranching and farming. However, the region's abundant natural resources, such as timber, coal, and even uranium, attracted various industries over the years, as well as the construction of the Boulder Dam, which was later renamed the Hoover Dam.
In recent times, Garfield County has become renowned for its scenic outdoor attractions, specifically their national parks and monuments. The famous Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, and a portion of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument can all be found within the county, making it a major tourist destination.
A fun fact about the region is that the town of Panguitch, the county seat of Garfield County, holds an annual hot air balloon festival known as Panguitch Valley Balloon Rally, which features vibrant hot air balloons, vendors, and live entertainment, drawing visitors from all over the United States.
