Dickenson County is located in the southwestern region of Virginia and is part of the Appalachian Mountains. It has a population of about 16,000 people and is one of the least populated counties in the state. The median household income is $29,992 and the median home value is $71,800.
The county is predominantly rural with only one incorporated town, Clintwood. The majority of the population lives in small towns and unincorporated communities such as Birchleaf, Clinchco, McClure, and Haysi. Most of the housing stock consists of single-family homes, although there are some mobile homes and apartments.
