Hopewell is a small city located in Hopewell County, Virginia, in the United States. It is situated on the banks of the Appomattox River and is bordered by the city of Petersburg to the north and Prince George County to the south. The city covers an area of 10.3 square miles and has a population of approximately 22,000 people as per the 2019 estimates.
Hopewell has a rich history and was originally established as the Bermuda Hundred area by the English in 1613. During the Civil War, it was an important supply base for Confederate armies and was later occupied by Union forces.
