1. Colton, Washington was established in 1874 and was originally named "Wakefield" after the Wakefield family who settled there.

2. The first school in Colton, Washington was established in 1881.

3. The town of Colton became an important station on the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1888, providing services to the logging industry for many years.

4. In 1891, a post office was established and the town was officially renamed "Colton" after the first postmaster, George W. Colton.
