He earned a scholarship to the University of Southern California in 2000 earning a degree in Communication in 2004. His years at USC taught him to be a disciplined formidable competitor, as he was a starting pitcher on the Trojan baseball team. He was awarded the Marks Foundation Scholar Athlete for Excellence in Athletics and Academics, as well as the Pac 10 All Academic Team in 2003 and 2004. Upon graduation, he moved to Las Vegas where he began a career in wholesale finance earning the distinction of No. 1 in Production for Las Vegas, top 1% among Business Development Managers, and Platinum Producer for Sales Excellence for one of the nations largest lending institutions. His desire to return to the Seattle area never wavered, so the opportunity to merge into the family business in 2009 was a natural. With a strong background in sales and finance and growing up in a real estate family and now with a wife in real estate, his decision to be a part of Butler & Butler was a match in every way. Bret quickly rose in the ranks of Realtors for sales and customer service. In 2011, Bret was voted Top 30 Under 30 realtors in the nation by the National Association of Realtors where he was featured on the cover of Realtor Magazine for his excellence and innovation in real estate. Bret was chosen among thousands of nominees for this prestigious nationally recognized honor. Bret has also been awarded the Five Star designation from 2010-2018 for his excellence in customer service and was also recently featured in Forbes Magazine as a Real Estate Market Leader for the Seattle area (2018).
