1. On March 3, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the authorization for the Grand Coulee Dam. It was the largest concrete structure ever built and is still the largest hydroelectric power producer in the US.

2. The dam was completed in 1942 and began providing power to nearby cities in Washington and Oregon. The dam also created the 130-mile long Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake, which is the largest lake in Washington and one of the largest man-made lakes in the world.
