1. In 1877, the first post office was established in South Bend, Washington.
2. The town was originally named "New London" after the nearby Londoners Creek.
3. In 1887, the town's name was changed to South Bend when the post office moved to a new building.
4. In the late 1800s, South Bend was a center for logging and shipbuilding in Pacific County.
5. During the early 1900s, the town became an important fishing port on Willapa Bay and many of the families living in South Bend made their living from fishing.
6. In 1970, South Bend was named an All-America City by the National Civic League for its efforts to improve the quality of life for its citizens.
7. The South Bend Museum of History was established in 1990 to preserve and interpret the history and culture of South Bend and Pacific County.
8. Every year since 1991, South Bend has held a Fourth of July celebration that features a parade and fireworks display over Willapa Bay.
