1. University Place, Washington was known as "Tacoma View" before it officially incorporated as a city in 1995.
2. The first settlers in the area were members of the Puyallup Tribe, who lived along the shoreline of what is now Puget Sound.
3. In 1842, the first non-native settlers arrived in the area and established a sawmill along Chambers Creek.
4. In 1889, the Tacoma Land Company purchased the land that is now University Place and developed it into a residential neighborhood.
5. In the early 1900s, the University of Puget Sound opened its first campus in University Place, which led to its current name.
6. The site of what is now Curtis Senior High School was used as an Army training camp during World War II.
7. The area was also used as a filming location for the movie 10 Things I Hate About You (1999).
