1. On June 6, 1855, the Battle of Seattle occurred in Seattle, Washington, just a few miles north of Chehalis. This battle was fought between United States forces and Native American tribes of the region over the settlement of the area by U.S. settlers.
2. On November 5, 1855, the Treaty of Medicine Creek was signed near the town of Chehalis, Washington. This treaty established a reservation system which laid out boundaries between the Native American tribes and the United States, as well as establishing guidelines for daily relations between them. The treaty is considered to be one of the most significant in Native American history.
