Arlington is the oldest incorporated town in Snohomish County, Washington. It was first established in 1876, when settlers from New England came looking for a place to start a new life. The city is named after General Robert E. Lee's Virginia home, Arlington House. Arlington was also the first town in Snohomish County to have its own school district, which opened in 1892. In 1910, the first telephone service in the area was installed in Arlington, and the first paved road was built in 1916. Today, Arlington is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities and its proximity to Seattle and other cities in the Puget Sound region.
