1. Cle Elum was originally inhabited by the Kittitas tribe of Native Americans. The first settlers in the area arrived in the late 1880s, and the town of Cle Elum was officially incorporated in 1902.
2. The Northern Pacific Railroad arrived in Cle Elum in 1909, bringing an influx of settlers and businesses to the area. The railroad also helped to make Cle Elum a popular tourist destination, and it remains a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts today.
3. In the early 1900s, Cle Elum was a bustling mining community with several coal mines operating in the area. These mines eventually closed and most of the miners moved away, but some stayed and continued to work in the logging and forestry industries.
4. In 1941, the US Army established Camp Cle Elum near the town as part of the World War II effort, and it remained open until 1946. The camp is now a ghost town, but some of its buildings still remain standing today.
