Sammamish, Washington is a city located in King County, in the state of Washington. The city was officially incorporated in August of 1999, and is located about 20 miles east of Seattle. The city is bordered by Lake Sammamish to the west and the Cascade Mountains to the east. As of 2018, the population of Sammamish was 65,890.
The area in which Sammamish resides has been inhabited by Native Americans since the 1800s, and was originally part of unincorporated King County. In the early 1900s, the area was developed as a resort community, with several lakeside resorts being built. The area then became a popular spot for summer homes and vacation spots.
In the late 1980s, residents began pushing for the city to incorporate as its own separate municipality. This push was successful and on August 31st, 1999, the City of Sammamish was officially incorporated. Since then, the city has grown significantly, becoming one of the fastest growing cities in Washington State.
