1. Neah Bay is the most northwestern town in the contiguous United States, located in Clallam County, Washington.
2. It was first inhabited by the Makah people more than a thousand years ago and first came to the attention of Europeans when Captain George Vancouver visited the area in 1792.
3. The Makah Tribe still lives in Neah Bay and is the only federally recognized tribe in the state of Washington.
4. In 1855, the Treaty of Neah Bay was signed between the Makah Tribe and the US Government, reserving a large amount of land for the tribe and allowing them to retain certain fishing, hunting and gathering rights.
5. The village of Neah Bay has long been an important fishing port and is home to numerous commercial fishing boats, charter boats and whale watching vessels.
