1. Reardan was a small farming village established in the 1880s by a group of German, Dutch and Scandinavian immigrants.
2. The town is best known for its successful wheat farming and the surrounding Palouse Hills.
3. In 1932, Reardan was the site of a major confrontation between local farmers and the federal government during the Great Depression.
4. The farmers refused to accept a government program to purchase their wheat for below market prices, and instead formed a cooperative to sell their own wheat directly to millers.
5. The Reardan Farmers' Cooperative eventually succeeded in selling their wheat at higher prices than the federal program had offered, and became a model for other farmers in the region.
