Fox Island is an unincorporated island community located in Pierce County, Washington, United States, near the entrance to Puget Sound. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, osprey, harbor seals, porpoises, and river otters. The area was first inhabited by Native Americans who lived off the abundant fish, shellfish, and game in the region. The area was then settled by Europeans in the mid-1800s who farmed the land and fished out of the many bays and islands in the area. Fox Island was named for Colonel George Fox, an early settler of the area.
