One fun fact about Lyman, Washington, is that it was once home to the Portage Railway Company. The company operated a railroad line that connected Port Townsend and Port Gamble in the late 1800s. This railway was an important transportation link for logging, mining, and other industries in the area. During its heyday, the railway even served as a stop on the Northern Pacific Railway's main line from Seattle to Tacoma. Today, the railway has been abandoned but its importance to local history lives on.
