1. Hoquiam, Washington was incorporated in 1890 and is the oldest city in Grays Harbor County.
2. The town is located on the west edge of Grays Harbor, near the mouth of the Hoquiam River.
3. In 1910, President William Howard Taft visited Hoquiam, making it the first town in the state of Washington to be visited by a sitting U.S. President.
4. During World War II, Hoquiam hosted a major lumber mill and shipyard, contributing to the war effort by producing ships and materials for the Navy.
5. In 1947, a major earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck Hoquiam, damaging many of the town's buildings and homes.
