McCleary is a small town located in Grays Harbor County, Washington. It is located about eight miles east of Elma and about 12 miles west of Olympia. The population was 1,838 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1888 by Charles L. McCleary, who moved to the area from Illinois.
McCleary is known for its annual McCleary Bear Festival, which is held each year in May. The festival began in 1946 as a way for the community to come together and celebrate the bears that inhabited the area around the town. The event has grown over the years to include carnival rides, live music, and food vendors.
The town is also home to McCleary High School, which was established in 1908. The school is known for its strong athletic programs and has won numerous state championships in football, basketball, track, and wrestling.
The city also has a number of parks and recreational facilities, including Camp Gwinwood, which offers camping and outdoor activities for visitors and locals alike.
