1. In 1869, the town of Cashmere was founded as a trading post by an African American man named John S. Weedin. The post was located at the junction of two trails, one going east to Wenatchee and the other north to Lake Chelan.

2. In the early 1900s, Cashmere was home to the state's first woolen mill, making it the birthplace of the Washington wool industry.

3. In 1909, the first hydroelectric power plant in Washington State was built in Cashmere, bringing electricity to the town for the first time.

4. The Cashmere Museum and Pioneer Village is located in Cashmere and is a replica of an early 20th century logging camp. It includes a general store, blacksmith shop, and a replica of the first hydroelectric power plant.

5. In March of 1889, a devastating flood hit Cashmere and destroyed much of the town. Fortunately, many of the buildings were rebuilt and Cashmere is still thriving today.
