A fun fact about Hansville, Washington is that it is home to the largest oyster farm in the Pacific Northwest. The oyster farm was established in 1825 by Chief Seattle and has been a major source of income for the town ever since. An historical anecdote from Hansville is that in 1856, the town was the site of the first U.S. Navy base on Puget Sound. The base was closed in 1859 and today, only a few of its original buildings remain as a reminder of its past.
