Raymond was officially incorporated in 1890, and has long been a timber and fishing center. The village was named after L.V. Raymond, a local logger, who in 1887 staked a claim and built the first sawmill in the area. The mill ran until the 1920s, when it was replaced by the Raymond Pulp and Paper Company. In its heyday, the village boasted several hotels, restaurants, stores, and a theater. Today, Raymond is known for its annual Rhododendron Festival, which is held every May, and its historic downtown district. Fun fact: Raymond is home to the World's Largest Salmon Barbecue! Every August, thousands of people from all over the Pacific Northwest come to Raymond for this one-day event.
