Yacolt is a small community located in Clark County, Washington, about 20 miles northeast of Vancouver. The town was founded in 1902 and has a population of about 1,100. Its name comes from the Chinook jargon word for "burning," a reference to the Yacolt Burn - the largest forest fire in Washington history, which consumed 238,920 acres in 1902. The town is surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and provides many activities for outdoor enthusiasts such as hiking, fishing, hunting and camping. The nearby Moulton Falls Regional Park features a large waterfall and swimming area. The area is also home to the Yacolt Burn State Forest, an area of over 55,000 acres that includes several miles of hiking trails and old-growth forest.
