Taholah was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Olympia in 1855, which established the Quinault Indian Nation and set forth the rights and responsibilities of the Quinault and other Native American tribes in the state of Washington. The treaty was signed by representatives from 15 Native American tribes and was a significant milestone in establishing peace between Euro-American settlers and Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest.
