1. Tenino is part of Thurston County, which was created in 1852 from parts of Lewis and Mason counties.
2. In 1853, the first post office in the area was established in Tenino, making it one of Washington's oldest cities.
3. The town was officially incorporated on August 19, 1883, and named after Chief Tenino of the Nisqually Tribe.
4. In 1890, the Northern Pacific Railroad built a station in Tenino, making it a major transportation hub in the region.
5. During World War I, Tenino became home to a military hospital that treated soldiers wounded in the war.
6. In 1929, the Tenino Sandstone Quarry opened and supplied sandstone for buildings throughout Washington and Oregon.
7. Tenino was the first city in Washington to hold an official Flag Day parade in 1947.
8. On July 4th, 1979, the Tenino Depot Museum opened to the public as a museum dedicated to local railroad history.
