1. Elma was established in 1876 by a group of pioneers who crossed the Cascade Mountains in search of better farmland.
2. The village was named after the daughter of the town's founder, William C. Crafts.
3. Elma was the site of two major lumber mills that operated in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
4. From 1908-1909, Elma was the temporary home of President Theodore Roosevelt while he visited Grays Harbor County to hunt bear and elk.
5. Elma was originally located in Thurston County, but in 1915 it was annexed to Grays Harbor County.

7. The town is well known for its annual Loggerodeo Festival held every July since 1936, which celebrates the logging culture of the area.
