1. Cosmopolis was founded in 1891 and was originally known as "Puget City", named after the nearby Puget Sound.
2. It was incorporated in 1912 as a city, but its name was changed to Cosmopolis in 1916 because of its diverse population and businesses.
3. In the early 20th century, Cosmopolis was a major shipbuilding center and one of the most prosperous cities in Washington State.
4. During the Great Depression, Cosmopolis was hit hard and many of its businesses and industries closed down.
5. Cosmopolis is home to the world's tallest totem pole, standing at over 150 feet tall. It was built in 1953 and dedicated to the town's centennial celebration.
6. In 2011, Cosmopolis declared itself an official "Safe Harbor" for illegal immigrants in an effort to promote tolerance and diversity among its citizens.
