Monroe is located in Snohomish County in the state of Washington, United States. It is located 25 miles northeast of Seattle. The city was founded in 1883 by pioneer settler John Monroe. It is the site of the Evergreen State Fair, which has been held annually since 1926. The city is home to many historic sites, including the Monroe City Hall, which was built in 1928 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. In addition, the city is home to the Monroe Historical Society Museum, which features artifacts from the city's past.
