Friday Harbor is named after a British naval officer, Joseph Poal, who sailed by the area in the 1800s. He named the harbor after his ship, the H.M.S. Friday, which had stopped there for repairs. The town of Friday Harbor was officially incorporated in 1909 and is now a popular tourist destination known for its stunning views, outdoor activities, and unique shops and restaurants.
