The Official Wisconsin State Flower
Wisconsin State Flower
Viola sororia

The Viola sororia, commonly known as the common blue violet, is the official state flower of Wisconsin. It is a species of the genus Viola and is native to temperate regions of North America. This flower is a perennial that blooms in the spring and typically grows in colonies. Its petals are typically a deep violet to blue in color and its leaves are heart-shaped and typically a medium to dark green. It is a symbol of modesty and faithfulness and has been a popular flower choice in bouquets and arrangements. In 1909, the Wisconsin State Federation of Women's Clubs proposed that the Viola sororia become the Wisconsin state flower. The proposal was approved by the Wisconsin Legislature in 1909 and the common blue violet officially became the Wisconsin state flower.
