1. Prosperity is an unincorporated community located in Mason County, West Virginia.
2. It is located along the Ohio River and was once a thriving river port.
3. The village of Prosperity was founded in 1818 by Thomas and Elizabeth Williams.
4. The first post office in Prosperity opened in 1820.
5. The town was originally known as Williamsport, but the name was changed to Prosperity in 1845.
6. In the late 1800s, the town was home to a number of businesses including a hotel, general store, and sawmill.
7. The town was also home to a ferry service that operated between Prosperity and Point Pleasant, Ohio from 1820 to 1920.
8. The town has a population of just over 200 people as of 2020.
9. Prosperity is home to the historic St. Paul's Episcopal Church, which was built in 1834 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
10. The town is also home to the Mason County Historical Society Museum, which features artifacts from the area's past.
