Sherry is an Ashe County native and the daughter of the late Donald M. Goodman and Christine Goodman of West Jefferson. She has a daughter, Christen Rinehart Murphy, MA, LMFTA who is a licensed marriage and family therapist in the Ashe County area.
Sherry is dually licensed as a North Carolina broker, Certified Residential Appraiser and founder/prior owner of Ashe Rental Agency, a full service property management company. She graduated with honors from UNC-Greensboro in 1984 and completed post graduate work in the Legal Assistants Program at Meredith College. Sherry has a varied background having worked as a legal assistant in Durham for many years and then for an attorney in Boone. Sherry also worked with the Ashe Partnership for Children and served as Advertising Director for the Jefferson Post, where she learned a great deal about marketing and worked with the early revitalization efforts for downtown West Jefferson. Real estate is the continuous thread running throughout her career, with a variety of interesting jobs and experiences which have given Sherry unique abilities to assist buyers and sellers in all aspects of the real estate industry. In 2007, Sherry received a tremendous honor being nominated and voted by her peers as Realtor of the Year by the Ashe County Board of Realtors. She has since been voted Best Real Estate Agent in Ashe by the Mountain Times People's Choice Award in 2011 and 2019, and has received additional people's choice nominations.
My greatest joy is assisting first time home buyers. There is nothing better than the smiles and excitement of a family who has just been handed the keys to their new home. Sherry states, The real estate market has changed dramatically since I was licensed in 2000. There is a greater challenge today than ever before in advising property owners how to best manage their real estate investments. For buyers, it is an exceptional time to buy with many properties available at the lowest prices in years and extremely low interest rates. For sellers, each situation must be analyzed to determine if the sellers best interests are served by selling at todays prices, reaping income potential from the property by leasing, whether the home should be rented long-term or managed as a vacation rental property. In addition to applying her expertise to these questions, Sherry is adept at providing sound advice on staging- preparing a home to sell by arranging furniture and accessories, selecting colors, and making subtle changes which help a home to show its best and sell for the best possible price.
