Bibb County, located in the great state of Alabama, was founded on February 7, 1818, and initially named Cahawba County after the Cahaba River. However, the name was changed to Bibb County in 1820 to honor the first governor of Alabama, William Wyatt Bibb. Bibb County is situated in the west-central region of Alabama and covers approximately 626 square miles.

Bibb County played a significant role during the Civil War as the site of several ironwork facilities, contributing to the Confederate war effort. It later became a center of coal mining from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. The economy gradually shifted to timber, agriculture, and manufacturing as the major industries.

One fun fact about Bibb County is related to its wildlife. The Cahaba River, which runs through the county, is home to the largest population of the endangered Cahaba River Lily. The beautiful Cahaba lilies typically bloom between mid-May and mid-June and attract tourists to see these rare and delicate flowers.
