Garland County, situated in the great state of Arkansas, was formed on April 5, 1873, and named after Augustus H. Garland, an Arkansas lawyer and politician who later served as the Attorney General of the United States under President Grover Cleveland. The county is located in the Ouachita Mountains, covering an area of 734 square miles.

Hot Springs, the county seat, has a unique history of its own as it was famous for its soothing hot springs, which attracted visitors and settlers in the early 1800s. These natural hot springs turned the city into a renowned health and relaxation destination, drawing prominent figures such as Al Capone and Babe Ruth. In 1832, the U.S. Government set aside the area around the hot springs as a "reservation," creating the oldest federal reserve in the nation, even predating the National Park System.

Fun Fact: Garland County hosts the "World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade" every year on March 17th in Hot Springs. The parade route is just 98 feet long and is a popular, entertaining event that showcases the county's quirky spirit.
