Kings County is located in the Central Valley of the great state of California, USA. It was established on March 22, 1893, from a portion of Tulare County, becoming the 45th county of the state. The county is named after the Kings River, which got its name from Spanish traveler and missionary, Padre Francisco Garcs, who encountered Native Americans of the Yokut tribe in his 1776 expedition. Garcs named the river "Rio de los Santos Reyes" (River of the Holy Kings) in honor of the Biblical Magi.
The county seat and largest city is Hanford, which was founded by James Madison Lacey in 1877. It experienced rapid growth due to the arrival of Southern Pacific Railroad in the late 19th century. The area primarily started as an agricultural region, producing cotton, grapes, nuts, and milk. Kings County has since evolved into a hub of industry and agriculture.
Fun Fact: Kings County is home to the Naval Air Station Lemoore, which serves as the largest master jet base for the United States Navy's Pacific Fleet.
