Columbus, Georgia played a significant role during the Civil War. Due to its location, it served as a valuable transportation hub for the Confederacy, helping to move troops and supplies to the battlefield. In fact, the city was home to one of the South's largest military hospitals, which was housed in what is now known as the Springer Opera House.
