Bleckley County is a small, charming county located in the southern part of the great state of Georgia, USA. It was created on July 30, 1912, and covers an area of approximately 219 square miles. The county was named in honor of Chief Justice Logan Edwin Bleckley, a distinguished jurist of the Supreme Court of Georgia.

In the early days, Bleckley County was mostly inhabited by Native Americans, particularly the Creek tribe, before European settlers arrived in the 18th century. The area was initially part of Pulaski County, but after being subdivided, Bleckley County was established as a primarily agricultural region. Cotton, along with other crops, became the mainstay of the local economy.

The county seat, Cochran, was established in 1869 and named after Judge Arthur E. Cochran. The city boasts a rich railroad history, with the Macon and Brunswick Railroad (later the Southern Railway) providing vital transportation links to the surrounding areas, further contributing to the growth and development of Bleckley County.

One fun fact about Bleckley County is that it hosts the annual Cochran-Bleckley CountryFest, a well-loved community event featuring arts and crafts, live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities. The event showcases the vibrant community spirit and diverse talents of Bleckley County residents.
