A fun and verifiable fact about Peru, Illinois is that it is the birthplace of the famous aviator, Clifford Turpin "C.T." Grey, who was the first person to make a complete circle around the globe in a single-engine airplane. He accomplished this feat in 1938, flying from New York to California, across the Pacific to Australia, then across Asia and Europe, back to New York. Grey was born in Peru on May 13, 1890.
