.Kendall County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Illinois, USA. It was formed in 1841 from parts of LaSalle and Kane Counties, and the region is named after Amos Kendall, who was the United States Postmaster General under Presidents Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren. The county seat is Yorkville, which is also the largest city within the county.
Kendall County has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. The land was initially inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Potawatomi, who were later removed following the Treaty of Prairie du Chien in 1829. European-American settlers soon began arriving during the 1830s, drawn by fertile farmland and access to rivers, such as the Fox River.
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the economy of Kendall County was primarily focused on agriculture. Dairy farming, corn, and wheat were the main products, and the region was known for its high-quality butter and cheese. As roads and railroads developed, towns like Oswego and Plano flourished, and manufacturing industries like the Plano Harvester Company emerged as major employers in the area.
In more recent years, Kendall County has experienced significant population growth due to its proximity to the metropolitan area of Chicago. It is now considered part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has become more suburban and residential in nature.
Fun fact: The Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville is Illinois' largest waterpark, featuring numerous slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers for visitors to enjoy. The park covers over 58 acres and attracts thousands of visitors each summer.
